While obtaining your Cayman Islands holiday, make sure you attend a show through the ‘Barefoot Man’. George Nowak (the Barefoot Man), came into this world in Germany (or Austria, dependant upon the source) but has become just as much a part of the Cayman Islands as much locals. They have lived and played there since 1971 after a time period of island hopping which included Hawaii and also the Bahamas.
His songs are mostly a risqué parody set to calypso, reggae, country or pop music. If you have seen the film ‘The Firm’, then you would already know Barefoot’s music. He wrote the song ‘Money, Money, Money’ and it is singing in the background while Caïman location plage sept mile was dancing.
Barefoot not merely writes and performs his songs, he also owns the record company that records and sells his CDs (present in most stores on Grand Cayman). They have also branched in the market to The Bahamas, where one of his albums was in the very best Ten for four years.
His songs include ‘Ship Faced’, ‘Ship Song’, ‘Save the Lap Dance for Me’ and ‘Thong Gone Wrong’. He also sings about Cayman current affairs and wrote ‘The Gay Cruise Liner Song’ right after the visit from a Gay Cruise. One reviewer stated the Barefoot Man won a Grammy Award for ‘Gone Coconutz’, which was written after 85dexrpky devastating Hurricane Ivan, although I have got been unable to find this album or artist indexed in the Grammy Archives.
No Cayman Islands holiday is complete without catching a show through the Barefoot Man. He can be found on the Reef Hotel every Tuesday and Thursday night. The Reef is definitely the only 100% beach hotel on Grand Cayman.
John has completed the on-line training course supplied by the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, which included a vacation to Grand Cayman and Little Cayman to go to various hotels, sample some of the restaurants and to participate in a selection of tourist attractions.
